About

The Website

Cold Bill is a web storybook. A new page will be posted Monday – Friday(barring any unforeseen calamity) and will include a new illustration as well as a story vignette.

The Story

This is the story of a guy who ends up in a grim situation and tries to make the best of it. A variety of characters are involved and there is an underlying plot of sorts.

The story is divided into Chapters. I am going to make an attempt to write standalone chapters that contribute a bit to an overall story but can be read on their own without missing out too much. Starting at the beginning of the current chapter is the best way to get caught up.

The Technique

The images are made in Photoshop. A pencil sketch of a scene is scanned and traced over with the pen tool. I have a very high-resolution scan of some brown paper that I blend with a solid color layer to make “colored paper.” Shapes are cut out of the paper and stacked in Photoshop to make the final pieces, sometimes including special patterns or effects. I might make a big how-to post some day just to clarify the steps involved. I just use the quotation marks because it’s only pretend cut paper.
