“Highlord Incridulostus Hsin,” the gaunt figure stated with a short bow. William hesitated.

“Um, pleased to meet you.”

“That would make you the first,” Highlord Hsin said. “With formalities behind us, allow me now to inspect the blade.” He reached an emaciated hand forward. What little flesh remained on his tattered body looked dried and leathery, and each movement he made produced a series of soft creaks and pops.

William looked down. “No,” he said.

“Pardon?”

“Kuru said that I have to keep a hold of it or the zombies will see me.”

Highlord Hsin bared his teeth and leaned forward. “And just how long have you possessed…Kuru?”

“Since sundown.”

Highlord Hsin said something to himself softly, closing his eyes and bowing his head. He turned and began walking away. “Very well. Troublesome, very troublesome, but not without its uses. See to it that you visit our armorer for more appropriate attire.

“Refuse another request and you will be joining them,” he finished, indicating with a wave the clump of rotting soldiers that surrounded him.
